Meta’s Threads Surpasses 100 Million Users in a Remarkable Five-Day Surge, Zuckerberg Reveals

Threads Tops 100 million users

In a groundbreaking achievement, Meta’s highly anticipated text-based social network, Threads, has skyrocketed to an astonishing 100 million users within just five days of its launch. This meteoric rise has placed Threads among the most downloaded social media platforms in the United States, even rivaling the likes of TikTok, which boasted 102.3 million active U.S. users in May, according to data from Insider Intelligence.

Mark Zuckerberg, the visionary CEO of Meta, made the momentous announcement in a post on Threads on Monday. He attributed the incredible user base growth to “mostly organic demand,” emphasizing that Meta had refrained from deploying extensive promotional campaigns thus far.

While Threads has yet to penetrate the European market due to stringent European Union data privacy regulations, its user acquisition speed outpaced any other app, triumphing over even ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence app that took two months to reach the 100 million user mark, as per a UBS study.

Though Threads may still lag behind other social media platforms on a global scale, it has achieved an unprecedented feat in its infancy. Insider Intelligence’s estimations from May place Facebook’s user count at over 2 billion, Instagram at 1.4 billion, and Twitter at more than 363 million.

The advent of Threads has coincided with a possible decline in Twitter’s popularity, as indicated by a graph shared by Matthew Prince, CEO of network security firm Cloudflare, demonstrating a gradual decline in Twitter’s traffic ranking this year.

As the news of Threads’ triumph spread, Twitter found itself embroiled in controversy, particularly due to the threat it perceived from Meta’s new creation. Shortly after Threads’ launch, Twitter issued warnings of potential legal action against Meta, adding fuel to the fire of intense competition among text-based social media platforms.

Threads owe a significant part of its initial success to its seamless integration with Instagram, Meta’s widely popular photo-sharing social network. By linking their Instagram accounts, users have been able to swiftly sign up for Threads, harnessing the vast user base of Instagram, estimated to be around 135 million active users in the United States in May.

While Threads’ rapid ascent has been nothing short of remarkable, it remains to be seen how it will continue to thrive and evolve in the dynamic realm of social media. As users eagerly explore its features and Meta explores avenues for growth, the battle for dominance in the digital landscape intensifies, promising an exhilarating future for social media enthusiasts.

Despite the absence of any official response from Twitter regarding the recent developments, the remarkable success of Threads stands as a testament to the potential disruptive power of innovative social media platforms, reshaping the way we connect, communicate, and share in the digital age.
